Timbered Homes was started in 2020 by Michael Watson. Michael has a background in traditional mortise & tenon furniture making and was introduced to timber-framing in 2018. Timber-framing quickly became a new passion. He made his first timber-frame in 2019, a tiny house for himself. He then began building timber-framed tiny homes for others.

In 2022, while designing a full-sized home, he had the epiphany that led to the Timbered Home. Faced with the high-cost and redundant nature of structurally insulated panels, he knew there had to be a better way to enclose a timber-frame. When exposed to post-framing techniques the idea for a new, hybrid style clicked. He completed his own shop and home in this style in 2025.

Michael is also a physician and a veteran of the U.S. Air Force.
